Success Story - Shakira Chun

Shakira ChunEverything Shakira Chun knows about success in life she learned from her mother. Well, almost everything - but more on that later. Shakira, a marketing representative at Fidelity National Title in Orlando Florida, credits her mother with setting an example early on in her life. "She was a single Mom who taught me how to be a strong, independent woman," states Chun. "She set goals and attained them," she concludes.

Family is a "driving force" in her personal life. She and her husband, Joe Cacho, make time for their two children, aged 9 and 13. "We make sure to separate business and family life," she says.

She lists her personal guiding principles, in order of importance as: ethics, integrity
and loyalty.

Shakira has five years in the title industry, and prior to that three years in real estate. "I got into the title business through a neighbor and it was supposed to be only for a short period of time, and five years later here I am," she states.

A twenty-year resident of Orlando, Chun is a native of Puerto Rico. Because she is bilingual, Chun has a large number of Hispanic clients, many of whom are referrals from past clients. "Although Hispanics are not my entire client base, they are an important
part of it - they are very loyal when they receive good service," she says. Orlando is a true melting pot, and she would like to learn a third language, perhaps Vietnamese
or Chinese.

Her professional motto: "attitude is everything." She attributes much of her success to the coaching she and all the other reps went through during the past three years. "At first we were skeptical, with all the paperwork and tracking, but soon we were sold, because it helps to set goals and follow through. It's an ongoing process that teaches that you must see it to achieve it. Our regional sales manager speaks with each rep every 2 weeks to monitor our progress. It keeps me accountable," she asserts.

Now, back to influences other than her mother. Professionally, Gail Kish, regional sales manager of Fidelity National Title, has proven to be an inspiration. "Another big influence is my husband, who is director of sales at a time-share resort. He's a go-getter, and his positive attitude keeps me going," she states.

Professionally, Shakira considers herself to be a dedicated, hard-working individual who sets goals and strives to achieve them. "My ability to balance my time and priorities makes me productive enough to accomplish a lot at the end of each day. Although it can stressful at times, a full schedule is often the biggest motivator for me to accomplish tasks," she asserts.

She offers the following tips to help others achieve their professional goals:

  • Become a better person tomorrow than you are today
  • Take action daily to develop yourself professionally while enjoying life
  • Have a plan and keep it in front of you daily. If you fall off course one day, get back on track; a few days a week developing your professional growth are better
    than none.
  • Keep things simple but consistent

Her primary goal is to offer financial freedom to her clients. What she doesn't offer, she finds from other sources. By doing this, she has positioned herself as a valuable resource.

How has Focus Publications helped her achieve success? "The publications are a great way to keep me in front of prospects and clients, who absolutely love receiving them, she states. "I have used the articles in my holiday greeting and in my newsletter. HTML makes it so easy, one click and you are done!" she concludes.
