A common thread runs through the life of Michael Lippe, a Title Representative at Fidelity National Title in Laguna Nigel, CA. His seamless career transition from textiles to titles is all about knowledge, quality and service.
Lippe, who has been in the title industry for six years, has a long and storied history in the wholesale and retail clothing business. When he moved to California in the nineties, he worked for a custom clothing company that worked with CEOs of major corporations and professional athletes.
“The money and lifestyle were great, but we were about to start a family and it was time to stop traveling so much,” he states. One of his clothing clients owned a title company and offered him a job, which he accepted. “Now I have more time to spend with my lovely wife, my daughter, two dogs and one cat – in that order,” he adds.
Michael, who was born and raised in New York City, cites his parents as early influences. His mother, a professional model and VP of a ready to wear firm, knew lots of famous designers, singers and musicians. His Dad was president of Seagrams Distillers for 30 years.
Michael started working for his mother during summer breaks, when he was 16. Her positive attitude and a strong work ethic had a lasting influence on him. “She was ahead of her time,” says Michael. “I would describe her as being much like Katherine Hepburn, a strong woman with moxie.”
He also names Ben Shaw, a financial backer in the clothing business, as someone who made a strong impression on him. “Ben taught me if you have a good idea, believe in it and assemble the right team, anything can happen,” Lippe relates. “He also had a tremendous work ethic.” Shaw helped to launch the careers of renowned designers such as Halston, Oscar de la Renta and Geoffrey Beene. Michael is grateful to have had the exposure to what he describes as a glamorous era that no longer exists.
How does Focus Publications help him in his career? Michael uses Week in Review and Economic Focus to help build and maintain his network of prospects and clients. “My mantra is, ‘information will set you free’ and Focus Publications is a good source of information,” Michael states. “The products work because they fit my basic concept, which is to educate clients and to become a resource for valuable information. If you do that, clients come to rely on you for timely information, and to think of you first,” he concludes.
